training and qualifications

Halton swimming club is run by a dedicated team of volunteers - this includes the coaches, swim teachers, officials, committee and poolside helpers. We are always looking for more volunteers and often this can lead to training and qualifications.

One area which is currently short of helpers is officials (judges) At the moment we have 6 qualified officials (1 J2S, 1 J2 and 4 J1s). However in order for the club to hold more licensed events we need to increase the number and level of the officials. Officials are also required to attend all team galas and the more we have the easier the events are to run.

Training to become an official follows a series of qualifications:

Timekeeper: An introduction to the world of the swimming official. Minimum age 14, must be affiliated to a club. No pre-requisites

Judge Level 1 (J1): Online theory course and poolside experience to become a judge level 1. No pre-requisites

Judge level 2 (J2): This is the second level of qualification. It encompasses the role and duties in relation to all aspects of judging and the theoretical role and duties of Starter. Minimum age 16. Pre requisites Judge Level 1 and 15 hours experience post J1 qualification.

Judge Level 2 Starter (J2S): Candidates wishing to qualify as a Starter will be required hold the Judge Level 2 qualification and have completed a minimum of 20 hours post qualification experience as Judge Level 2.

Referee: This course contains theoretical instruction and specified practical experiences. It is followed by a formal examination. Minimum age 19. Pre-requisites - all previous judging qualifications.
