Lots of Socks 2020, World Down Syndrome Day, Monday 16th March
Time & Location
About the Event
World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), 21 March, is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. Read about how WDSD came about on the United Nations resolution page.
The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
We have been approached by Ste Donald our former Chair at Halton SC to request our swimmers to take part in this very worthy cause. Ste’s work at CWU Mersey will donate £1 for every picture we take of swimmers wearing odd socks. (Just a foot shot from the knee down).
As the 21st is a Saturday we have decided to take all pictures this week on the run up to 21st and ask if you can post them onto your twitter account and tag CWU Mersey @cwugmersey (don’t worry if you don’t have twitter, please just email me the pictures and we will get them up on our new public twitter account @HaltonSwimClub. If you are posting to social media you can also use the hastags #LotsOfSocks, #WorldDownSyndromeDay and #WDSD20.
This week we are asking if swimmers can wear odd socks to/from swimming (they won’t be swimming in them) and we will get the pictures taken & uploaded.
Anyone wishing to donate to this cause may do so at the swim desk.
Swimmers, Parents, Grandparents, Carers, Coaches and Committee Members are all invited to join in & wear odd socks
