Halton SC News Update – 11th April 2014 

The Crusader Swimming League 2014 – Division 3 Round 1 – Kingsway – Saturday 22nd 2014

Halton SC got off to a flying start in the Crusader Swimming League Division 3, Round 1 Gala held at Kingsway on Saturday 22ndMarch 2014.

Taking home advantage first up, Halton head the Division 3 table after a solid first round victory.

Result: 1st Halton SC 292 Points;  2nd  Wellington SC 226 Points; 3rd Whitchurch Wasps SC 183 Points; 4th Buxton SC 172 Points; 5th Market Drayton SC 152 Points.

 

There were personal best swims for:

Ellie-Jo Hughes, Girls 12 Years 50m Freestyle & 50m Fly; Daniel Buckley, Boys 12 Years 50m Fly; Zara Priest, Girls 10 Years 50m Breaststroke; Jack Gallimore,  Boys 10 Years 50m Breaststroke; Eleanor Donald, Girls Open 100m Freestyle, Leah Horabin, Girls 12 Years 50m Backstroke, Reece Sumner, Boys 12 Years 50m Backstroke, Lizzie Bryce, Girls 14 Years 50m Fly, and Emmie Brownlow, Girls 10 Years 50m Backstroke,

 

The Halton Team won 36 out of a possible 51 events for an outstanding all round Team Performance.  

English Schools Swimming Association  North West Division  Primary School Relay Championships – Everton Park Sports Centre – Friday 21st March 2014

Farnworth Primary School in Widnes represented Halton Borough at the English ESSA NW Primary Relay Championships, on Friday 21st March at Everton Park.

The team, consisting of all Halton SC swimmers, had a superb competition against Primary Schools from all over Cheshire, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire and the Isle of Man.

The Girls team  of  Hazel Chadwick, Jessica Durrance, Lucy Harris, Amy Hopkins and Chloe Lea, finished 8th of 30 Schools in the Freestyle Relay Competition and 13th of 30 in the Medley Relay event.

The Boys team of Sam Craig, Finlay & Jacob Geraghty, Louis Roberts and Reece Sumner, finished 6th of 25 schools in the Freestyle Relay and 3rd of 25 schools in the medley relay.

The third place finish in the medley relay competition has earned qualification for the 20th National ESSA Primary Schools Team Championships at Ponds Forge ISC in Sheffield on June 21st 2014.

A wonderful achievement, well done all.

British Long Distance Swimming Association – The Tom Butcher Award  2013

 

Thomas Roberts, Halton SC and Warrington Dolphins Open Water swimmer has won two prestigious awards at the recent British Long Distance Swimming Association Annual Presentation Dinner.

The awards evening, which took place at the Hydro Hotel in Bowness on Windermere on Saturday 8th March 2014, recognizes the outstanding achievements of open water swimmers during the previous 2013 Season.

Thomas picked up the Tom Butcher Award which is presented to the Junior Swimmer of the Year who has demonstrated outstanding effort during the season and was also presented with the Junior Grand Prix Trophy for most points gained by a Junior swimmer during the 2013 season..

The Nomination for Thomas for the Tom Butcher award read as follows: Thomas Roberts has completed 5 events covering 21.13 miles and achieved 5 wins. He has marked his place in BLDSA history by being the first Junior to complete the Champion of Champions swim finishing with the second fastest time just 6 seconds behind the fastest Senior swimmer. Thomas came 1st at Wykeham, Lynn Regis, Lynn Tegid, Coniston and Champion of Champions. He was the first Junior ever to complete the Dover Harbour Champion of Champions swim and was also the Junior Grand Prix Series winner.

One open water colleague said: Really blown away by Thomas’s ability and incredible endurance to withstand and complete the Champion of Champions swim in 12 degrees.

DSE National Junior  & Youth Swimming Championships 2014 – Ponds Forge International Sports Centre Sheffield – 1st & 2nd March 2014

 

Halton GB Deaf Swimmer Luke Nisted returned with a 6 medal haul from the recent English Federation of Disability Sport National Swimming Championships held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

Luke picked up 4 Gold and 2 Silver Medals in a fantastic performance of the two day event. Luke’s Gold Medals came in the 50m & 100m Freestyle, 100m Individual Medley and 100m Breaststroke whilst his silver meadals came in the 100m Backstroke and 200m Individual Medley. Luke’s Long Course 50m freestyle time was a new personal best. Well Done Luke.

Merseyside & District Junior Swimming League Division 2 Round 4 – Liverpool University Sports Complex, Liverpool 23rd March 2014

Halton SC look to have finished in 1st Place in the Merseyside and District Junior Swimming League 2nd Division for Season 2013/2014  having completed a clean sweep of victories across the 4 rounds of galas.

If confirmed, Halton will be promoted back to Division 1 for Season 2014/2015 at the first attempt

In the 4th Round Gala held at the University of Liverpool Sports Centre, there were new personal best swims for:

Ami Lee Mannion, Girls 11 Years 50m Freestyle; Will Woodward, Boys 13 Years 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke; Lucy Harris, Girls 11 Years 50m Backstroke; and Daniel Buckley, Boys 11 Years 50m Backstroke;

Result: 1st Halton SC 227 Points; 2nd  Liverpool Penguin SC 123 Points; 3rd Woodchurch SC 105 Points; 4th Runcorn Reps SC 88 Points

Halton SC News Update – 5th April 2014

English Schools Swimming Association – North West Region Individual Swimming Championships 15th  February 2014 – Bolton One Leisure Centre

Halton swimmers turned out in force and to great effect when representing their schools at the ESSA Individual Swimming Championships at the new Bolton One Leisure Complex.

In the Boys 15 years Age Group, Thomas Roberts of SS Peter & Paul Widnes helped himself to no less than 10 medals taking 5 Gold, a Silver and 4 Bronze. Thomas took gold in the 100m Freestyle, 50m Fly, 50 & 100m Backstroke and 100m Individual Medley. The solitary Silver came in the 50m Freestyle whilst 4 Bronze medals followed in the 200m Individual Medley, 50m Breaststroke, 100m Fly and 100m Breaststroke. Thomas posted personal best times in the 100m Freestyle and 50m &100m Backstroke events.

Ceris Breckell of Wade Deacon achieved 3 Silver Medals in the Girls 14 years 50m Fly, 50m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke. There were also top 6 finishes for Ceris in the 50m & 100m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke. Whilst Ceris lowered her personal best times in all her 50m events

Eleanor Donald of, SS Peter & Paul picked up a double Silver medal haul with 2nd place in the Girls 13 Years 200m Individual Medley and 50m Freestyle.  Eleanor also finished 5th in the 50m Breaststroke and 4th in the 50m Backstroke. Joe Mannion, also of SS Peter & Paul, won a well deserved Bronze Medal for the Boys 14 Years  200m Individual Medley in a brilliant new personal best time. Joe also finished 5th in the 100m Freestyle, 8th in the 100m Individual Medley & 50m Freestyle and 7th in the 50m Backstroke all of Joe’s swims were completed in new personal best times.

10 Year Old Emmie Brownlow of St John Fisher Primary had a double Silver medal winning weekend with 2nd place finishes in the 100m Individual Medley and 50m Freestyle. Emmie also picked up a Bronze medal in the 100m Freestyle. Emmie had two 4thplace finishes in the 100m Backstroke and 50m Backstroke. All Emmie’s swims were new personal best times.

Isobel Winckles of Wade Deacon picked up Silver in the Girls 13 Years 100m Individual Medley in a new personal best time. Beth Reid also of Wade Deacon had 5 excellent top 10 finishes in the Girls 13 Years 50m & 100m Freestyle, 50m & 100m Breaststroke, and 50m Backstroke.

9 Year Old Ben Woodward of St Bede’s Primary finished 7th in the 50m Backstroke and 9th in the 50m Freestyle both in new personal best times.

Merseyside & District Junior Swimming League Division 2 Round 3 – Kingsway Leisure Centre, Widnes 22nd February  2014

Halton SC’s progress towards the Merseyside and District Swimming League Division 2 Title continued unchecked as they won the third Round Gala at Kingsway on Saturday 22nd February 2014. When added to their victories in the opening two rounds the league table now shows Halton clear in 1st Place.

There were new personal best swims for:

Tom Craig, Boys 14 Years 50m Breaststroke & 50m Freestyle; Lucy Harris, Girls 11 Years 50m Backstroke;  Daniel Buckley, Boys 11 Years 50m Backstroke & 25m Fly; Will Woodward, Boys 13 Years 50m Breaststroke; Matty Sayle Boys 14 Years 50m Fly & 50m Free;  Ellie-Jo Hughes Girls 13 years 50m Fly & 50m Freestyle; Eleanor Donald Girls 14 Years 50m Freestyle; Sarah Roberts Girls 14 Years 100m Backstroke; and Joseph Ware Boys Open 100m Backstroke;

Result: 1st Halton SC 222 Points; 2nd  Liverpool Penguin SC 123 Points; 3rd Woodchurch SC 97 Points; 4th Runcorn Reps SC 91 Points,

Halton SC News Update – 4th April 2014

Liverpool & District Swimming & Water Polo Association - Swimming Championships 1st & 8th February 2014

There were plenty of Medals, Pennants and Personal Best times for  Halton swimmers at the recent Liverpool and District Swimming and Water Polo Association 2014 Swimming Championships held at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park in Huyton early in February. In total there were 13 Gold Medals, 10 Silver, 8 Bronze and a further 22 Pennants awarded to Halton swimmers for top 8 finishes. A brilliant reward for the hard work put in during training which resulted in some outstanding swims from the Halton Team.

Leading the way was 12 Year Old Will Woodward who bagged 7 Gold Medals, 2 Silver and a Bronze. There were first place finishes in the 100m, 200m & 400m Freestyle all in new personal best times,  the 200m Backstroke and 100m Fly in a new personal best time plus, 200m & 400m Individual Medley again in a new personal best time. Silver medals followed in the 100m Backstroke and 100m Breaststroke in a new personal best time with a bronze for 200m Breaststroke.

There were 5 medals  for 13 Year Old Matty Sayle picked up 3 Gold medals for 100m & 200m Backstroke in a new personal best time and 100 Fly also in a new Personal Best Time. 2 Bronze medals were also bagged with a new personal best swim in the 200m Fly There was also a 5th place finish in the 200m Freestyle in a new personal best time.

16 Year Old Thomas Roberts became overall Liverpool and District 1500m Champion taking the Gold Medal and overall Title with a stunning personal best swim some 8 seconds inside his previous standard for this event. Thomas added a Bronze for third place in the 200m Fly.  There were also top 6 finishes for Thomas in the 100m, 200m, & 400m Freestyle in a new personal best time, 100m Fly  and 400m Individual Medley also in a new personal best time.

Nikita Jackson picked up a gold medal for 1st place in the 200m Breaststroke for the 17 years Age Group and doubled her medal haul with a silver in the 100m Breaststroke event. Chloe Doolan also picked up Gold for a fine 800m Freestyle swim in the 15 Years Age Group.

Also picking up 5 medals was 11 Year Old Daniel Buckley with 3 Silver Medals for 2nd place in the 50m Backstroke, 50m & 100m Breaststroke both in new personal best times and two Bronze medals for 3rd in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Fly in a new personal best time. Daniel also had two top 5 finishes in the 100m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley both in new personal best times,

 

Meanwhile, Joshua Howard-Hughes picked up 4 Medals and 2 Pennants. There were 2 Silver medals for second place finishes in the boys 9 Years 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke in a new personal best time,  2 Bronze medals then followed for third place in the 200m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke events. Joshua also achieved top 6 finishes in the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Fly.

 

Tom Craig took Silver in the Boys 14 Years 100m Breaststroke, while 11 year Old Sam Clayton took Bronze in the 200m Breaststroke in a new personal best time. Lizzie Bryce also took silver in the Girls 12 Years 400m Freestyle in a new personal best time.

 

There were also top 8 finishes for; Lizzie in the Girls 12 Years 100m & 200m Freestyle, 100m Fly in a new personal best time, 200m Individual Medley and 200m Backstroke; for Nikita Jackson in the Girls 17 Years 100m Freestyle,  for Sarah Roberts in the Girls 14 Years 400m Freestyle in a new personal best time, Zara Priest in the Girls 9 Years 50m Breaststroke and Sam Clayton in the 50m & 100m Breaststroke. Ceris Breckell finished 7th in the Girls 14 Years 200m Breaststroke.

 

Personal best times were recorded by Zara Priest in the 50m Freestyle and 200m Breaststroke, Lucy Harris in the Girls 11 Years 100m Freestyle, and Chloe Doolan in the 400m Freestyle.

Representative Honours for Halton Swimmers

There were early representative honours for Halton swimmers in 2014 in the following events:

Staffordshire Inter County Gala 2014 – Fenton Manor Sports Complex Stoke on Trent  2nd February 2014

Halton SC swimmers Will Woodward and Matty Sayle were chosen to represent Cheshire County in the recent Staffordshire ASA Junior invitation Gala. Both swimmers put in superb performances as Cheshire took the overall title in the 6 team event.

Will picked up two silver medals for 2nd place finishes in the 12 Years 100m Breaststroke and 200m Individual Medley events both in superb personal best times whilst Matty picked up a Bronze for a third place finish in the 13 Years 100m Backstroke.  To complete a brilliant day for Halton Jo Woodward was the victorious Team Manager for Cheshire County.

Result: 1st Cheshire 243 points; 2nd  Warwickshire 200 points; 3rd Staffordshire 174 points; 4th Leicestershire 173 points; 5th Worcestershire 159 points

 

Independent Schools  Association – National Finals  - Coventry Sports & Leisure Centre 50m Pool 1st February 2014

12 Year Old Ellie–Jo Hughes was selected to represent North Region at the recent Independent Schools Association National Finals following her outstanding performances for Tower College in the previous rounds of competition. Ellie Jo competed in the individual 50m Freestyle and both Team Relay events posting an excellent 31.76 for 50m Freestyle – a new Long Course Personal Best time. Well done Ellie Jo.  

City of Liverpool Swimming Club – 50m Long Course Splash & Dash Meet 2014 – Liverpool Aquatics Centre 15thFebruary 2014

Halton Swimmers once again grabbed the headlines at the inaugural City of Liverpool Swimming Club’s 50m Sprint Meet held at the Liverpool Aquatics Centre on 15th February 2014 with a series of exceptional swims.

Matty Sayle picked up two Gold medals and a Silver through winning the Boys 13 Years 50m Backstroke and 50m Fly Events whilst also taking second place in the 50m Freestyle dash. Matty’s Freestyle and Backstroke times were new personal bests.

Daniel Buckley took gold in the Boys 11 Years 50m Breaststroke and grabbed a Silver in the 50m Backstroke. Joshua Howard Hughes had a brilliant afternoon achieving 2 Silver medals for the Boys 9 Years 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke events whilst taking Bronze in the 50m Fly.

Lizzie Bryce took Bronze in the Girls’ 12 Years 50m Fly and Nikita Jackson also claimed a Bronze medal in the Ladies Open 50m Breaststroke.

There were also fine swims from Ben Lovell, Sam Clayton, Amy Hopkins, Chloe Williams and Ellie Harrison.   

Warrington Dolphins Long Distance Swimming Club 1500m Championships 2014 – 8th February 2014 – Orford Jubilee Hub

Halton Swimmers had a triple success at the recent Warrington  Dolphins 1500m Championships held at Orford Jubilee Pool. This was the third year that Dolphins had hosted the event.

14 Year Old Joe Mannion won the Junior Boys 1500m category in 23 minutes 59 seconds whilst sister Ami Lee Mannion won the 800m Event in 12 minutes 44 seconds.

To complete a hat trick of wins for Halton, 15 Year Old Lisa Bazley won the Junior Girls 1500m title in a time of 22 minutes, 34 seconds.
