The ASA North West Region Disability Championships 2011

Halton SC’s Great Britain Swimmer, 15 Year Old Luke Nisted, completed an outstanding quartet of Gold Medals at the Short Course ASA North West Region Disability Swimming Championships held at the Liverpool Aquatic Centre, Picton on Saturday 15th October. Luke, who was only confirmed as able to swim minutes before the event, overcame a potentially disastrous situation when his original entry form was not collected by the Region, to complete a clean sweep of Gold medals in winning all four of the events that he entered. Luke posted a massive PB in winning the 100 Freestyle in 58.49 and also lowered his best time in the 50m Backstroke to 31.97 whilst claiming his second gold medal. Gold medals number 3 and 4 arrived in the 100m Backstroke and 50m Freestyle. Luke continues to make excellent progress.

Swim Conwy Autumn Challenge Meet 2011

Halton SC sent a strong contingent to Llandudno to compete in the Swim Conwy Performance Centre Autumn Challenge on 15th October.

Top performer was Alison Steele who returned with an impressive haul of 3 Gold Medals in the Girls 12 Years 50m Fly, 100m Fly and 50m Backstroke. Alison also picked up an excellent Silver medal for second place in the tough 400m Freestyle event to complete an excellent return.

Team mate Thomas Roberts picked up a Gold Medal in the Boys 13 Years 50m Fly posting a great PB in the process and also grabbed two excellent Silver medals in the 50m Freestyle, with a 1.5 second personal best time, and the 100m Freestyle - once again lowering his time by almost two seconds. Thomas also finished 4th in the 1500m Freestyle but clipped a further 9 seconds off his previous best, which he had set just one week earlier at Wirral, as he homes in on a regional qualifying time.

There were Silver Medals for Nikita Jackson in the Girls 14 Years 100m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke whilst Ceris Breckell picked up a great tally of three Bronze medals taking 3rd place in the Girl’s 12 Years 50m Fly, 200m Breaststroke and 50m Backstroke. In a hectic weekend, Ceris also finished 4th in the 100m Fly and 5th in the 100m Breaststroke. There were great personal best times for Kieron Hughes who, on his return from illness and injury, knocked seconds off his previous standards for 100m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke, 200m IM, 100m Breaststroke time and 100m Backstroke. Keiron finished in an excellent 4th Place in the 100m Back event. Keiron finished 6th in the overall Boys competition. In an excellent, well contested gala, there were also personal best swims for Tom Hough, Sarah Roberts with 9 Seconds off her previous 100m Breaststroke best time, Eleanor Donald and Amy Steele. Alison Steele and Ceris Breckell finished in Joint 6th Place in the girls 12 Years individual competition whilst Halton Finishing 5th Overall - not bad considering the team were only able to contest events on the Saturday due to Merseyside League Team commitments on the Sunday..

City of Liverpool Swimming Club Tadpole League - Gala 4

Halton SC swimmers continued to make encouraging progress in the City of Liverpool Tadpole League Gala 4. Alison Steele took an excellent Bronze medal in the 12 Years 50m Backstroke and with an excellent time of 36.39 gained enough points to move into 4th place overall in the individual competition overall with just two events to go. There were personal best times for Zahra Groves in the 10 Years 200m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke competition. Lizzie Bryce also beat her previous best time in the 200m Freestyle. Over in the girls 11 to 12 years 50m Backstroke there were also PB’s for Elanor Sims, Niamh Cullen, Bethany Abraham and Sarah Roberts.

Wigan BEST Centre of Excellence Future Stars Open Meet - Level 2

Tom Patton was the outstanding performer as Halton swimmers competed at the first Wigan Centre of Excellence Future Stars Meet on 23rd & 24th October 2011. In a meet designed to showcase current and future North West Aquatic Talent and launched to coincide with the opening of the new 25m Wigan International Pool, Tom grabbed himself two Bronze Medals in the 50m Breaststroke and 200m Breaststroke events. Tom posted a qualifying time for the ASA North West Open Championships in grabbing 3rd place in the 50m Breaststroke. Tom also just missed a medal in the 100m Breaststroke where he was edged out into 4th place.

Luke Nisted also posted a Regional qualifying time in recording a 27.17 PB in the 50m Freestyle. Issy Winckles posted a great personal best time in her first level 2 meet recording 39.25 for 50m Backstroke. There was also an excellent personal best swim for Ceris Breckell in the 50m Fly. In addition, Excellent Team Swims were posted by Nikita Jackson, Alison Steele, Amy Steele, and Matty Sayle as Halton finished 12th overall in this inaugural event.

Well done all.
