An update on the second weekend of the Cheshire County Championships 2011. The Results are loaded to Team Stats On Line.
The highlight of the weekend was the Men’s Open 4 x 50m Medley Relay Team of Will Warburton (Back), James Flaherty (Breast), Andy Matthews (Fly) and Ste Bailey (Free) who regained the Championship Trophy in fine style leading from start to finish in a high quality event, holding off strong challenges from Alsager Bridgestone (2010 Winners) in 3rd and Bebington who took 2nd place. An outstanding performance from the team who came home in 1.51.11 just over half a second ahead of Bebington and faster than the 1.52.60 the team clocked in winning the 2009 event. The team now has the Liverpool & District and Cheshire County Open Medley Team Relay Championship titles for 2011.
The same team came together to contest the Open 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay later in the afternoon but this time they were edged out of the medals finishing 4th in 1.43.43 in what was a very high quality relay event.
Earlier the Boy’s 10-12 Yrs Medley Relay team of Matty Sayle, Tom Craig, Harry Smith and Will Woodward had finished in a creditable 8th position against some fierce competition. The team will be able to compete in this age group next year and will benefit from this year’s experience. There were also good performances from the Boys 16 and Under Medley and Free Teams with Tom Williams, Liam Sheeran, Adam Penney, Dan Musa, Paddy Clegg, Tom Patton and Tom Roberts all producing great swims. The Girls 16 and under teams consisting of Abbie Jenkins, Lucy Wallbank, Kerry Anne Gough, Morgan Grady & Nikita Jackson also performed well. There were also some excellent individual results over the weekend.
There were top 10 finishes for Lucy Hale 8th in the 15 Yrs 400m Freestyle with a personal best time, Tom Williams, who was also 8th in the 15 yrs 100m Freestyle event went under a minute for the first time in another excellent Personal Best. Alison Steele took 5th in the 12 Yrs 200m Fly knocking 5 seconds off her previous best in the process and going under 3 minutes for this event which is a brilliant achievement. Tom Roberts continues to make excellent progress reducing his 200m Breaststroke time by an incredible 16 seconds in finishing 13th and also took 10 seconds off his 400m Freestyle time. Tom also reduced his 200 IM time by 5 seconds. Abbie Jenkins also produced a great PB in the 15 yrs 100 Back.
A special mention also for Luke Nisted who was in the medals again this weekend winning 4 Gold Medals in the 14 & U 50m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke, 50m Freestyle and 50m Fly and a Bronze in the 200 Individual Medley in the Great Britain Swimming Club Deaf National Swimming Competition held at the K2 Centre in Crawley. On the basis of his performances over the weekend Luke has been invited to join the Great Britain Swimming Club Squad for the World Championships in Portugal during August - Well done Luke.
Well done everyone. Special thanks to our poolside help - Paula, Brian, Kath & Ian but especially to the swimmers who were a credit to the club.
Thanks & Regards, Neil F
I thought I would update you with progress from the first weekend of Swimming at the Cheshire County Championships 2011.
The results I have are now loaded to Team Stats Online - I have to update a few more with final places when the official results come in.
Once again, an excellent weekend of top-class swimming from all who represented the club at Stockport and Macclesfield. A good sign that the club continues to make steady progress.
Club Captain Will Warburton had a truly outstanding weekend with a tremendous Hat Trick of Championship wins, bagging the Men’s Open 50m & 100m Backstroke Titles in fine style and also taking the Men’s Open 50m Breaststroke crown in a new championship record time. This is a superb achievement from Will who succeeded in retaining three of the Titles he won at the 2010 Championships and was only denied a fourth by the timetable which demanded Will swim the 100m Breaststroke Final just minutes after taking the 100m Backstroke crown.
On Saturday evening, the 50m Breaststroke event proved extremely successful for the club with Will and team mate James Flaherty, who took the Open Silver Medal in a new personal best time, repeating their success from earlier in the year at Liverpool and Districts, by also making it a Halton 1-2 at County Level on Saturday evening. Not to be outdone, Tom Craig picked up a Bronze medal for 3rd place in the 11yrs Age Group and Liam Sheeran a well deserved bronze for 3rd Place in the 16 Years Category in a Personal Best time.
Earlier in the day Matty Sayle had picked up a Bronze by taking 3rd in the 10 year 50m Backstroke taking 3 seconds of his personal best time in the process and narrowly missed a second medal in taking 4th place in the 50m Fly.
Will Woodward took an incredible 7 seconds off his 200 Individual Medley time in taking 4th place in the 10 yrs Age Group.
There were also top ten finishes for Harry Smith (8th - 50m Fly 11 Yrs), Matty Marnell (7th - 50m Fly 14 Yrs), Luke Nisted (8th - 50m Back- 14yrs, 9th - 50m Free & 7th 50m Breast), Lucy Hale (9th - 50m Back -15 yrs, 7th 200m Back), Laura Gorry (7th - 50m Breast 13 Yrs), Nikita Jackson 9th - 50m Breast 14 Yrs), Tom Patton (8th - 50m Breast 14 yrs).
There were 54 individual swims and the swimmers recorded Personal Best Times in 43 events - an excellent achievement.
Individual Personal best times were achieved by Ceris Breckell, Paddy Clegg, Eleanor Donald, Abbie Jenkins, Tom Roberts, with a brilliant 5 Seconds off his 200m Backstroke time, Alison Steele, Amy Steele with a superb 6 second PB for her 50m Breaststroke and Tom Williams.
Halton also had two representatives in the Men’s Open 100m Breaststroke final on Sunday evening with Will Warburton and James Flaherty battling it out yet again in a major final. This time they were unable to repeat their success of the previous evening with James being just touched out of the medals in 4th place whilst Will faded after a strong first 50m to finish down the field - a victim of the timetable that meant the 100m Breaststroke final took place literally minutes after the completion of the 100m Backstroke final.
Well done everyone. Special thanks to our poolside help - Paula, Andy & Ian but especially to the swimmers who swam brilliantly, were all well behaved and up for the challenge.
I’d also just like to congratulate Ben Crank from our neighbours Runcorn Reps who took Gold in the 10yrs 50m Freestyle at Stockport on Saturday - an outstanding swim.
Looking forward to next week, already.
