The Wirral Metro Level 3 Meet held at Europa Pools in Birkenhead over the weekend was the scene of the last competitive action for the 2010/2011 Season.
Once again the club were well represented with 10 swimmers competing 60 individual events.
With the team superbly marshalled by Debbie, Brian, Martin and Alun they once again returned with an outstanding set of results.
The Overall Count was 32 Medals, 13 Gold, 10 Silver, and 9 Bronze. A further 14 top six finishes were also recorded along with 37 Personal Best Times.
Will Woodward and Alison Steele produced the stand out performances for the weekend both capturing a full set of medals, reaching the podium in all of the events they entered and accounting for almost half of the teams medal haul between them
In the Boys 10 Years Age Group, Will captured a total of 7 medals, 4 Gold, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze. Will won the 50m, Breast, 100 Breast, 50m Fly and 50m Back titles all in personal best times. Meanwhile, over in the 12 Years Age Group for Girls, Alison went one better and collected a total of 8 medals, 3 Gold for 100m Fly, 50m Fly and 200m Back, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze once again all in personal best times. Alison reduced her 200m Freestyle time by 7 seconds in taking a well deserved Bronze medal.
Laura Gorry returned to form with two Gold medals in the 13 years age group for 50m and 100m Breaststroke, Laura also picked up silver medals for the 200m Breaststroke and 50m Fly and a Bronze in the 200m Individual Medley.
The Teams other Gold medals were achieved by Luke Nisted in the 14years 100m Breaststroke, just touching out team mate Tom Hough who picked up an excellent silver medal, Amy Steele in the 10 Years 100m Breaststroke, Nikita Jackson in the Open 50m Breaststroke and Tom Craig in the 11 Years 100m Breaststroke. Tom also picked up a Bronze in the 200m Breaststroke - the first time he had competed at this distance.
There must be something in the water as the team captured an amazing 8, yes eight, Breaststroke Titles plus 4 other Breaststroke medals. Also, in the Open 100m Breaststroke, James Cox, currently training at Halton whilst home from university, but swimming for Swansea due to his term time training regime captured another Gold medal.
There were further medals for Luke Nisted, who captured bronze in the 50m Fly, Silver in the 100m Free whilst going under a minute at this distance for the first time, Silver in the 200m Back, 100m Back and 50m Back to bring his total to 6 Medals from 6 events.
Ceris Breckell completed the medal haul when she captured a bronze in the girls 11 Years 50m Fly.
Whilst the team were raking in the medals at Europa our open water contingent were braving the waters of Bala Lake for the weekend taking in the Cheshire County Open Water Championships and the BLDSA Llyn Tegid Championships.
Thomas Roberts finished in a brilliant 2nd place in the Cheshire County 3km Open Water Championship Junior Male Event with Frank Kilgannon taking 7th in the Senior Male 3km Championship. Stephne Douglas came home 10th in the BLDSA Llyn Tegid Senior Female 6 Mile event and 7th in the Cheshire Senior 3km Championships whilst Sue Marsh came in just ahead of Stephne in 6th.
Sarah Roberts entered her first open water event and finished 10th in the Cheshire County 500m Championships for swimmers new to Open Water. Well done to all.
