Halton SC News Update 8th July 2011

The Club were well represented at the Winsford ASC Level 4 Development Gala at Winsford Lifestyles Centre on Saturday 2nd July.

We had a number of swimmers competing at their first licensed meet in order to gain experience and post their first ranking times. They were joined by a number of more experienced swimmers looking to improve their best times in strokes and distances that they don’t compete at very often. Once again the swimmers were supported brilliantly by Brian Plumpton, Paula Stritch, John Breckell and Alun Hough. In return, the swimmers were impeccably behaved and posted a superb set of results in proving to be great ambassadors for the club.

There were 12 swimmers competing in 35 events achieving 4 Gold Medals, 3 Silvers and  5 Bronze. 28 Personal Best Times achieved.

Tom Hough led the way with 3 Gold Medals in the 14 Years Age Group taking the 100 IM, 50 Fly and 100 Free. An brilliant achievement for Tom who recently started training at Halton following a move from Altrincham SC. Tom Roberts picked up the Club’s 4th Gold medal with a 9 second PB in the Boys 13 Years 100IM posting the fastest time in the event overall at 1.13.71

There were 2 Silver Medals for Zahra Groves in her first licensed meet - taking 2nd place in the 10 Yrs 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle both with new personal best times. Ceris Breckell also picked up a Silver medal in the 11 Yrs 200 IM reducing her personal best time by two seconds in the process.

Two Excellent Bronze medals were achieved by Shelby Jack in the Girls 14 Years 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle, Amber Lovell took 4 seconds off her previous best to finish 3rd in the girls 12 years 50m Fly event and brother Ben took a deserved Bronze in the 10 Years 50m Freestyle. Sarah Roberts picked up a third place in the 11 yrs 100 Fly and reduced her time for the event by almost 9 seconds.

There were super performances from Lisa Bazley, Leah Horabin, Niamh Cullen and Beth Reid all of whom achieved top 10 finishes and posted personal best times with Lisa and Beth particularly unlucky to miss out on medals finishing 4th in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Breaststroke, respectively.

The Halton team at Winsford - missing Tom Hough, unfortunately.
