Halton SC News Update - 26th June 2011

At Salford Quays on Sunday Morning, 13 Years Old Thomas Roberts finished in an outstanding 2nd Place and picked up the Silver Medal in the ASA North West Region Junior Open Water Championships finishing the 1500m course around the docks in 22.24.84 mins. This is a high quality event which forms part of the ASA 2011 Open Water Festival.  A superb achievement.

Halton had a strong representation at the City of Liverpool Swimming Club’s Annual Long Course Sprint Event at Liverpool Aquatic Centre on Saturday and Sunday. Many thanks to: Steve Donald, Alan Hughes, Brian Plumpton, John Breckell and Paula Stritch for Team Managing at Picton over the weekend and supporting the swimmers in returning another excellent set of results.

The club returned with 2 Gold, 4 Silver and 9 Bronze Medals plus 41 Personal Best Times from 60 Individual Swims to demonstrate excellent improvement. Pride of place must go to Ellie-Jo Hughes who won the 9 Years 50m Fly and Nikita Jackson who won the 14 Years 50m Breaststroke both in personal best times. Nikita also picked up a Bronze Medal for an excellent performance in the 100 Breaststroke, again in a new personal best time reducing her previous best by 4 Seconds. Ellie-Jo just missed out on two further medals in coming 4th in the 50m Breaststroke and 200 IM. Luke Nisted picked up 4 medals, a pair of silvers in the 14 Years 50m and 100m Backstroke plus two Bronze in the 50m and 100m Freestyle all in Personal Best Times - this proved to be excellent preparation for Luke ahead of joining the GB Squad for the Deaflympics in Portugal this August. Liam Sheeran chipped in with two of his own winning a silver for second place in the 16 Years 50m Breaststroke and taking 3rd in the 100m Breaststroke knocking an incredible 7 seconds off his personal best time in the process. James Flaherty took silver in the Open Age 50m Breaststroke just losing out to old friend and adversary Carl Williams of Garston. There were excellent Bronze Medal winning swims from Ceris Breckell in the 11 Years 100m Fly, Eleanor Donald for the 11 Years 50m Fly, Harry Smith in the 11years 50m Fly, and Alison Steele again for 50m Fly this time in the 12 Years Age Group. Alison also clipped an astonishing 12 Seconds off her 200 IM time in finishing 12th. A special mention for Amy Steele who picked up a superb Bronze medal in the 10 Years 100m Breaststroke with a Personal Best time and missed a second Bronze Medal by just 0.03 of a second on taking 4th place in the 50m Breast once again in a personal best time. Amy has made excellent progress this year. There were outstanding performances from Sarah Roberts who made 7 personal best times during the course of the weekend and  Thomas Roberts made 4 personal best times including reducing his 200 IM time by 25 Seconds. Wow!

Laura Gorry added to the team total with two strong performances in the 13 years 50 Free and 100 Breaststroke.
