Carol Hughes is Merseyside Sporting Champions Volunteer of the Year 2011
Halton SC Club Secretary Carol Hughes has been named Merseyside Volunteer of the Year for 2011 at the 11th Merseyside Sporting Champions awards held at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool on Friday 4th November 2011. The award is richly deserved for the astonishing amount of work that Carol puts in behind the scenes to ensure that the huge variety of administration tasks are covered, including ensuring that the club meets ASA Swim 21 Standards.
This was the second award in quick succession for Carol who had recently achieved the Halton Sporting Volunteer of the year award for 2011 and as a result became Halton’s nomination at the Merseyside event. In order to achieve the title, Carol beat off strong competition from representatives of Knowsley, Wirral, Liverpool, St Helens & Sefton. Well done Carol.
Good start to the Deva League Campaign for 2011
The club has made an excellent start to their first Season in the Cheshire Based Deva League after winning the opening two Galas in Division 3 in fine style at Nantwich and Sandbach. With just the home gala at Kingsway to come on Saturday evening 19th November the club appear well placed to clinch promotion to Division 2 for 2012.
A huge number of personal best times have been recorded across the opening two fixtures which have both been characterised by outstanding team performances. Improved times have been achieved by Morgan Grady, Tom Williams, Owen Price, Ian Larsson, Ellie Mitchell, Elanor Sims, Jessica Donald, Megan Mitchell, Keiran Hughes, Zahra Groves, Sam Craig, Sarah Roberts, Erin Mitchell, Matt Williams, Amber Lovell, Matt Bannerman, Tom Roberts, Beth Reid, Ceris Breckell, Tom Craig, Joseph Ware, Liam Sheeran and Courtney Price.
Liverpool & District S & WPA - President’s Competition 2011 - Final
Entering the eight team Liverpool & District President’s Competition Final in 5th place the Halton team failed to improve their overall position and finished a high quality competition in 5th place overall.
One of the highlights of the final was a superb win in the Ladies Open 50m Breaststroke for Leanne Clarke who has returned to competitive action. There were also wins for Luke Nisted in the 15 Years 50m Freestyle and Club Captain Will Warburton who took the 50m Open Backstroke. There were Personal Best Times for Jessica Donald, Nikita Jackson, Chloe Doolan, Morgan Grady and Matt Williams. On a positive note the club had also finished 5th in this competition in 2010 but with fewer points overall.
Final Result: 1st Southport SC 275, 2nd Everton SA 218, 3rd Garston SC 186, 4th Liverpool Penguin SC 180, 5th Halton SC 167, 6th Hoylake ASC 158, 7th Bebington SC 147, 8th Bootle & North Liverpool SC 130.
City of Liverpool SC Tadpoles Competition 2011 - Gala 5
Halton’s star of Gala 5 in the Tadpole Series was Alison Steele who took a brilliant first place in the Girls 12 years 50m Fly event in a Personal Best time which moves her up to 4th in the overall competition standing ahead of the final rounds.
Team mate Matty Sayle also improved his overall position by gaining an excellent second place in the Boys 11years 200m Backstroke with a massive 9 second improvement in his previous personal best time. Matty moves into 2nd place in the Boys 11years overall competition.
There were also Personal Best times in Gala 5 for Eleanor Donald in the 50m Fly (achieving 5th place), Ceris Breckell and Sarah Roberts. Ryan Sanders achieved an excellent PB in the Boys 9Years 200m Breaststroke.
As the competition approaches its final stages, Will Woodward continues to lead the 10 Years Boys overall competition despite not having any further swims in Round 5.
